Chocolate Buttercream Recipe

Note: The quality of cocoa powder used in this recipe can dramatically change the color and flavor of the outcome. A cheap cocoa powder such as Hershey’s will result in a weak grayish-brown hue and unsophisticated flavor whereas a high quality cocoa powder will result in a rich chocolatey tone and taste. Chocolate and vanilla buttercreams can also be combined in various different proportions to achieve lighter strengths of chocolate frosting. Both of these buttercream recipes also perform well as fillings inside layer cakes. Combined with any sort of toasted nut, caramel, coconut, dried fruits, fresh fruit, preserves, or extract, buttercream can easily take on varied and more interesting flavors.
